Heater underneath mobile home sparks fire in Southridge Park

first_img“Be very careful with what you’re using for heating the underneath of a trailer,” Deputy Fire Chief Curtis Redpath warns. “This is a fairly common occurrence, especially when it gets cold like this.”Redpath says the exact cause of the spark is unknown, however, luckily for the resident occupying the trailer at the time, he became quickly aware of the incident and immediately dialled 911.“It was a small fire when we got on scene. He tried to extinguish it prior to our arrival – the crews extinguished it fairly quickly – and there was basically minimal damage.”- Advertisement -Redpath says it took approximately 45 minutes – one hour to ensure there weren’t any lingering flames after initially responding at 11:52 a.m.Redpath also says there are no reported injuries and the trailer should be in a livable condition in the very near-future.“We were able to keep the heat on and the power on – he’s going to isolate a couple of things, but they should be able to put some plywood where we opened it up, and where the fire burnt through and get it repaired.”Advertisement Redpath has a piece of advice in an effort to offset the possibility of responding to a similar call.“Just be careful what you’re using,” Redpath concludes. “Try to keep an eye on it and don’t put it right underneath the trailer – try to heat it from a distance.”last_img read more
