TRAGIC MUM FORCES SHOP TO TAKE OUT PRODUCTS SHE BELIEVES KILLED HER SON

first_imgThe heartbroken mother of a young GAA player who died after smoking a legal high is winning her battle against the shops selling the controversial products.Tragic Jimmy just hours before his death.Jimmy Guichard was a perfectly fit 20 year old young man who played hurling for St Euanns GAA Club in Letterkenny.Jimmy moved to England a few months ago from Letterkenny to look after his dad Martin who was suffering from cancer. However, just hours after smoking an illegal high on October 1st he suffered a massive heart-attack and died. His devastated mum Karen immediately launched a campaign to have the product removed from shops in England where Jimmy lived. And now some of the shops are refusing to stock the products which Karen believes killed her son.“One of the shops, Dark Times, is now refusing to stock smoke products. “The woman who owns the shop said she could not live with this on her conscience and I’m so happy with that.“I am just hoping that more of these shops will follow her example,” she said.Karen admitted that she has received some negative feedback for allowing the last photo of Jimmy in his hospital bed to be released.“Some people don’t think I should have released the picture of Jimmy in so much pain.“I didn’t take that decision lightly. But if it stops some young person from smoking these products and preventing their parents form having to cradle them while they die like I did, then I am glad I did it,” she said. Jimmy, who was a fantastic hurler and played with St Eunans GAA Club, moved to Donegal from London in 2005 when he was just 12.He became a hugely popular young man and referred to Donegal and Ireland as home and planned to return to Donegal in the coming months.St. Eunans have written a special tribute to Jimmy which will be read out at his funeral next Monday. His mum Karen will then take Jimmy’s ashes back to Donegal where some will be scattered over the home of St Eunans GAA Club at O’Donnell Park.
