Through the first four games of these NBA Finals, Toronto’s defense has … TORONTO — The Splash Brothers can’t do it alone. Not down 3-1. Not against this Raptors team.So as the Warriors head into Game 5 looking to win the first of three consecutive games necessary to claim the title, the big question amongst many is “who will be the third member of a Big Three?”Because if the Warriors don’t get that third scorer to show himself in Game 5, there won’t be a third-straight title.

President Obama touched on the economy, the military in Afghanistan and how hard it is for young people to find jobs. India fought back from a goal down to hold Malaysia 2-2 on Wednesday and will now face arch rivals Pakistan in their next game, the result of which will decide whether they make it to the final of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in Ordos, China.A win against the Malaysians would have sealed a place for the Indian men in the final but that did not happen as they were made to work hard to secure a draw.India drew first blood through Ravi Pal (ninth min), but goals from Tajuddin Jalil (24th) and Muhammad Amin Rahim (32nd) put the Malaysians ahead before Danish Mujtaba (52nd) scored the equaliser for the Indians. In another match, Pakistan edged past South Korea 3- 2 to surge to the top of the table with nine points, followed by India (eight) and Japan (seven).India were on the attack as soon as the hooter signalled the start of play and Gurwinder Singh Chandi led the charge with repeated forays into the Malaysian citadel. In the beginning of the match, a few of India’s penalty corner appeals were turned down.Their repeated attempts thereafter did not bear fruit before a strike from SV Sunil was padded away to Ravi Pal who picked up the high rebound to push home. But Malaysians fought back to challenge the rival defence, which forced the forwards to fall back on a number of occasions. The Malaysians carried a flurry of attacks into the Indian defence and were rewarded with three penalty corners in succession.advertisementAfter two failed attempts, Malaysia converted the third penalty corner when Jalil deflected a flick past Indian custodian Sreejesh in the 24th minute. A few minutes later, India earned their second penalty corner but couldn’t capitalise on it as Ignace Tirkey failed to trap the ball cleanly. In the 32nd minute, India gave away an easily avoidable penalty corner to the Malaysians when custodian Sreejesh kicked the ball straight into an Indian defender inside their circle.Muhammad Amin did not waste the opportunity and put the Malaysians ahead with a direct flick that went straight into the cage. India were lucky not to lose the match especially after conceding a number of penalty corners. They were not good at converting their chances either . Malaysia kept a tight leash on the Indians with man- to- man marking but India managed to break the shackles in the 52nd minute when midfielder Gurbaj Singh essayed a brilliant cross from the right flank to a diving Mujtaba who sank the ball straight into the cage. After the equaliser, Indian players launched repeated attacks in search of a winner but the Malaysian defence proved to be a hard nut to crack. In the closing stages, Malaysia created chances and even came close to scoring in the dying moments but VS Raghunath just managed to clear the ball from the Indian circle.India will face Pakistan on Friday.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is urging Jamaicans to take measures to ensure the safety of water for domestic use during the dry period.“We are aware that during the dry season, where there is shortage of water, persons are sometimes forced to source water from undesirable sources such as untreated water wells, rivers, ponds and streams, which can be very harmful to humans, if it is not treated properly, before drinking,” said Mitigation Programme Officer of the Planning and Research Division at ODPEM, Karema Aikens-Mitchell.She explained that water treatment involves adding drops of bleach, and boiling before drinking in order to prevent diarrhea and other illnesses. “We are also encouraging persons to practice vector control, while storing water, as a means of eliminating mosquito breeding sites, to prevent against dengue fevercaused by a virus transmitted from the Aedes Aegypti mosquito that can breed easily in and around the home,” she stated. These practices include punching holes in the bottom of tins before placing them in the garbage, using mosquito repellents, covering trash containers to keep rain water out, and properly covering drums, barrels, tanks, buckets and other containers used to store water. Mrs. Aikens-Mitchell said that persons should also wash their hands properly after using the toilet, or before handling and preparing food, to prevent the spread of diseases. The country is now in the annual dry period, which starts in January and typically lasts three months, ending in March. Mrs. Aikens-Mitchell informed that already, there are signs of drought conditions, mainly in the southern, western, and eastern parts of the island. The agency is urging citizens to practice certain mitigation and preparedness measures, including reducing lengthy showers, and turning off taps while brushing the teeth. In addition, limit non-critical activities, such as washing of cars with water hoses, and, instead, use a bucket. Also, limit watering of lawns, and if possible, reuse water from washing machines and kitchen sinks for watering.Mrs. Aikens-Mitchell also advised that in the event of rainfall, it is important for persons, especially farmers, to harvest as much water as possible and store it in properly sealed containers.Importantly, also, she is appealing to cigarette smokers to exercise caution, by properly putting out cigarettes before disposing to prevent bush fires.
By Chris Patterson, JIS Reporter A total of $330 million has been allocated to the Road Improvement Programme in the 2013/14 Estimates of Expenditure, currently before the Standing Finance Committee of the House of Representatives. With funding support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the project aims to promote the creation of a self sustainable system for the provision of safe and reliable national road network. It also seeks to support the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing in the implementation of a new framework for administering the main road network; strengthen the core activities of planning, programming and budgeting for the road sector; and the maintenance, design and construction of roads within the national network under the auspices of the National Works Agency (NWA). For this fiscal year, the money will be used for procuring equipment, goods and services necessary to facilitate the institutional strengthening of the Road Safety Unit; continue and achieve 100 per cent completion of civil works – continuous bushing along approximately 270 kilometres of the 300 kilometre-long Northern Coastal Highway corridor. Achievements to date include: procurement of office equipment; procurement of goods and services to facilitate road markings and signage; award of maintenance contract to undertake the routine maintenance of continuous bushing along sections of the Northern Coastal Highway; and the training of 20 Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing/National Works Agency staff in Project Management.
