Shampa to enthrall audience with her melodious voice

first_imgShampa Kundu is going to present an evening of Rabindrasangeet and Nazrul Geeti at Uttam Mancha on June 27.Also a CD containing 10 Rabindrasangeet and produced by Bhabna Cassettes and Records will be released on the occasion. Rabindra Sangeet exponents Srikanta Acharya, Sraboni Sen, Agnivo Bandyopadhyay veteran singer Haimanti Shukla will be present on the occasion. Shampa Kundu is a household name in Bengal. Be it Rabindrasanget or popular songs, Shampa is capable of enthralling the audience. Shampa’s father Subir Kundu was a student of Pandit Tarapada Chakraborty and Usha Ranjan Mukhopadhyay. Her initial training in music was given by her mother Belarani who was not only a Rabindrasangeet exponent but was equally proficient in Kirtan and devotional songs. Later, Shampa got her training in Rabindrasangeet from Dipankar Chowdhury and Agnivo Bandyopadhyay when she became a student of Rabindra Bharati University. She is one of the few vocalists who can sing both Rabindrasangeet and Nazumgeeti with equal ease. Also, she has been trained in Nazrulgeeti from Ruby Dutta and Sukumar Mitra. In Rabindra Bharati University she got the opportunity to learn Tappa, Thumri and old songs called Puratani. Side by side her interest grew in the songs composed by Atulprasad and Rajanikanta. Folk songs became a special area of interest. The interest in different kinds of songs have helped Shampa to sing songs of different variety and mood. The audience on June 27 are likely to get something unique from the veteran singer.last_img
